The Many Stars CTL project being developed in the Crow Nation in southeastern Montana has established a new headquarters office in Crow Agency.
The office, located adjacent to the tribe’s government offices, will serve as a base of operations for the Many Stars project and its contractors, said Dick Lyon, Global Project Director with Australian-American Energy Co. LLC.
“We’re really pleased to have our local office up and running this fall,” Lyon said. “It was important for us to get the offices established in Crow Agency for a number of reasons. First and foremost, we have a lot of work ahead of us centered locally as opposed to our Houston office and we need a dedicated space for our employees and contractors to operate closer to the action. And second, it’s important to be visible in the community and to let people in Crow Agency know we are going to be here for the long haul.”
Many Stars CTL is a joint project of AAEC and the Crow Nation. The company and the Crow Nation signed an agreement in August to begin developing the coal-to-liquids venture.
The Many Stars Project is initially targeted to convert 38,000 tons per day of coal into 50,000 barrels per day of ultra-clean diesel, jet fuel and naphtha. The project would provide up to 4,000 jobs during construction and 900 permanent jobs on the reservation after start up, which is expected in 2016.
The 1500 square foot modular style building contains offices and a conference room large enough for multi-contractor meetings said Lyon.
“We’re still in the ‘moving-in’ process so the offices are a little bare but already being put to good use,” Lyon said. “We conducted our first Board of Managers meeting a few weeks ago in the new conference room which was our ‘grand opening.’ By next year, there will be a lot more activity here and the building is going to get a lot of use.”
