CROW AGENCY, MT – Developers of the Many Stars Coal-To-Liquid (CTL) Project on Montana’s Crow Reservation announced today they have contracted with mining consultant John T. Boyd Company (BOYD) to manage planning and execution of the next phase of coal exploration and delineation for the project.

BOYD will oversee Many Stars’ planning and drilling activities to help identify the best potential coal reserves within the project’s 500,000-acre proprietary development area. The site of the new mine and the CTL plant will be selected after this drilling program is completed in the next 18–24 months.

“We considered proposals from a number of mining consultants and, in the end, we felt BOYD would bring the most expertise to this project,” said Allan Blood, chairman of Australian-American Energy Company, which is developing Many Stars CTL in conjunction with the Crow Nation. “BOYD is a leader in the industry. Their geologists, mining engineers, and other professionals continually and successfully demonstrate the world-class capabilities we want for Many Stars.”

“BOYD is pleased to have been retained by Australian-American Energy Company, LLC as the coal advisor and mining consultant to the Many Stars Project. We are excited to participate in this clean coal technology project that has significant potential for major benefits in terms of Tribal employment and utilization of innovative clean coal technology for the people of Montana and all of the United States,” said John T Boyd II, President and CEO of BOYD.

BOYD expects to begin drilling activities sometime in the fall, following completion and approval of an environmental assessment (EA). That assessment is being prepared by DOWL HKM (Billings).

BOYD’s work in 2009 will include supervision of drilling approximately 135 exploration and delineation holes to obtain subsurface geological information and core samples of coal seams.

BOYD expects to solicit bids from drilling companies to provide much of the work.

Many Stars CTL is an energy development project led by Australian-American Energy Company in collaboration with the Crow Nation.

The Project will use proven technology to produce 50,000 barrels per day of clean, alternative fuels for domestic use. The fuels will be produced from tribal coal, while CO2 that is created through the process will be captured and either sequestered in deep saline aquifers below the Crow Reservation or will be supplied by pipeline to regional oil fields for use in enhanced oil-recovery projects.

These ultra-clean fuels, which include jet fuel and diesel, already have proven their viability with automakers and the military. They contain no sulfur or aromatics and are non-toxic and biodegradable.

The $7.5 billion Many Stars Coal-to-Liquids project is expected to create 4,000 construction jobs and 700 to 900 permanent jobs at the mine and CTL plant.
